Procedures for Shoveling & Deicing Between Vehicles & Trailers

This service requires coordination and approval from onsite leaders. Generally, a plan is established before winter begins based on the specific site's needs and geographic location. Then, the program is adjusted on a storm-by-storm basis if and when needed. See decision making procedures below.

Can we calculate costs in advance?

This service is billed T&M. We are unable to calculate final costs in advance. This is because the timing of the storm, the density of cars onsite, type of precipitation, depth of precipitation, and surface temperatures are all variables we cannot ascertain in advance. To avoid unnecessary costs, ECF recommends removing snow from between cars when it is loose and playable. Waiting for it to melt can lead to personal injury and higher costs when temperatures drop, and the snow freezes solid; removal will cost exponentially more.

When should we scrape and then deice vs apply deicers only?

Generally any accumulation over one inch requires scraping before deicing (applying salt or liquid deicers). The same way we plow before we salt, we must scrape snow away first then deice the remaining residual snow and ice layer. Applying deicers on top of thick snow will lead to partial melting and then refreezing into ice pack. This would create very risky conditions onsite, especially when temperatures are below freezing or forecasted to drop below freezing in the near future.

Will snow or ice accumulate on paved surfaces?

    2. 2

Will 12-24 hours of ambient and paved surface temperatures support accumulation endurance?
